Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration at the Keyes Library

Keyes Library invites story-lovers of all ages to revel in reading and rhyme with a Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration on Thursday, March 12 at 3 p.m. Participants can make a “Cat in the Hat” mask and a Dr. Seuss pop-up toy! Children can also play Find the Hat to receive a prize.  Birthday cake, light refreshments, and prize drawings will also be available throughout the afternoon.

Theodor Geisel, who wrote under the pen name Dr. Seuss, has played an important role in charming children everywhere into reading. Celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday is a way for libraries, schools, and parents to underscore the importance and joy of reading.

This program is free and open to the community with support from donations, large and small, to the Friends of the Keyes Library. The Keyes Library is located on 4420 Maud Ave. For more information, please call 664-8006.

Readers Arrgghh Amazing!  Celebrate all things pirate with Pirate Day at the Keyes Library on Thursday, September 18 at 3 p.m. Children can make pirate hats, play pin the eyepatch on the pirate, and pose as a pirate in pictures. Children can also enter a contest to win a pirate ship kite. Pirate books will also be displayed and available for checkout.

Children can also play “Find the Hat” to receive a prize.  Birthday cake, light refreshments, and prize drawings will also be available throughout the afternoon.

Winter Fun at the Keyes Library

Winter Fun at the Keyes Library

Join the Keyes Library during the month of December for several merry and family-friendly events for individuals of all ages!

Children and teens can participate in the Keyes Book Bingo from Dec. 2 through Dec. 31. Pick up a bingo card from the library and follow the instructions to win candy and prizes. The Keyes Library will also have a grand prize drawing for those participants that turn in a completed bingo card! Two winners will each receive the grand prize of a scooter with lighted wheels.

Aspiring chefs can participate in the What’s Cooking?: Recipe Exchange from Dec. 2 through Dec. 31. Participants can come by the library for holiday cooking ideas and pick up the recipes of the month! While at the library turn in your favorite recipe to be entered into the contest for the recipe of the month in January! Two recipes will be chosen for January’s Recipes of the Month.

Act!vated Story Theatre at the Modesto Library

Join the Goza Family and the Modesto Library for Act!vated Story Theatre: Tales of Ambition and Dreaming Big at the Modesto Library on Saturday, April 20 at 12 p.m. This special performance will include two multicultural folktales featuring physical comedy, music, dance, American Sign Language, and audience participation. This program is recommended for ages 6 and older, but all ages are welcome. Free tickets will be available one hour prior to the show in the Modesto Library Children’s Department. This event is sponsored by the Aileen Gisler Bequest.

Funstrummers at the Modesto Library

Funstrummers at the Modesto Library

The Funstrummers Ukulele Band of Modesto will be performing songs that celebrate awareness and appreciation of the environment at the Modesto Library on Monday, April 15 at 5:30 p.m. Children ages 8 to 10 will also have the opportunity to learn a few notes on the Ukulele after the performance.  This free musical event is sure to be fun for the whole family.
