Modesto Housing Division launches online survey

MODESTO - Each year, the City of Modesto receives funding from the federal government for community development as well as emergency shelter and housing activities. In order to set spending priorities, the city's Housing Division prepares a five year plan that is updated every year to identify the housing and community development needs and develop a strategy for addressing those needs in a given fiscal year.

The city anticipates receiving approximately $3 million in funding for Fiscal Year 2011-12 and wants to provide the community with an opportunity to assist with identifying housing and community development needs in Modesto.

Where is Kanasa Avenue?

Where is Kanasa Avenue?

Drivers in west Modesto might be forgiven if they get to the intersection of Kansas and Dakota and suddenly don't know where they are.

The sign there, which recently went up, says "Kanasa."

The county says it's received calls about the spelling error and a worker is out today replacing the sign.

Community input still sought at city public forums

MODESTO - Want to be an active part in making Modesto the best place it can be? The Modesto City Council and City management team invite you to attend any of the remaining five Community Forums being held throughout Modesto. Your participation in these community forums is critical to the City’s future!

The Community Forums are an opportunity for you to provide input regarding the current Strategic Plan that has been adopted by the city council as well as input as to which city services are most important to you. City officials will take all the feedback we receive from you as guidance as we move forward into the future. There will also be two youth forums held to garner input and insight from the youth of Modesto.

Each Community Forum will begin with a brief presentation on the Strategic Plan followed by open discussion with the mayor and council, department directors and other city staff.

Modesto road construction begins Jan. 18

MODESTO - Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 18, motorists can expect multiple lane closures in both directions on Oakdale Road between Floyd Avenue and Manor Oak Drive. Road work is expected to be done by Friday, Jan. 21.

Traffic will be maintained, but commuters should travel slow through the work zone and expect travel delays.

City officials advise using alternative routes when possible.
