Snuggles Project at the Stanislaus County Library

Help make Snuggles, small security blankets for shelter animals, Feb. 1 through April 30. Blankets can be made by sewing, crocheting, knitting, or tying fabric and can be dropped off at any Stanislaus County Library branch.

To launch the Snuggles Project, the Waterford Library will hold a special Snuggles Project Day on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 12 to 3 p.m. where participants can make Snuggles at the library; however, participants are encouraged to bring their own sewing or knitting materials.

Please help the Stanislaus County Library bring warmth and security to animals at the Thomas W. Mayfield Regional Animal services Center through a Snuggles donation. Join fellow book lovers at Nick W. Blom Salida Regional Library on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 10 a.m. for the Salida Library Book Club. February’s book club pick is “Daniel Half Human: And the Good Nazi” by David Chotjewitz. The story of Daniel, a half- Jewish boy in Nazi Germany, and his friend Armin will captivate readers.

BZ Smith’s Storytelling Workshop at the Modesto Library

BZ Smith, Principal Storyteller, Writer, and Art Curator for Hive-Arts.org, will introduce participants to the art of storytelling at the Modesto Library on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. Participants will gain knowledge of how to quickly learn a story, how to strengthen their telling, and how to design a storytelling program for any audience. Parents and educators will find this class indispensable!

15th Annual “Sacramento Museum Day” Scheduled for Saturday, February 2!

A record 30 Sacramento area museums will offer free or half-priced admission all day on Saturday, February 2, 2013, during the 15th Annual Sacramento Museum Day.  Twenty-eight of the 30 museums will offer free admission whereas two destinations located in residential areas – the Sacramento Zoo and Fairytale Town – will offer half-priced admission to offset parking control and security costs.  With assistance provided by the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau, this hugely popular community event is presented by the Sacramento Association of Museums (SAM) and proudly supported by Umpqua Bank and Chipotle Mexican Grill.  Sacramento Museum Day event hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (with the last guests admitted at 4 p.m.).

Check In @ Your Library Teen Video Contest

Teens can be the star in a video they create by making an original movie trailer about their favorite book for the Check In @ Your Library Teen Video Contest! The video must be original and can use multimedia such as images, video, animation, music, and words to compel the viewer to read the book. This contest is open to all teens age 13 – 18, with prizes being awarded at a special reception for all contestants on Saturday, March 16, 2013. Official contest rules and entry form are available at your local Stanislaus County Library branch and online at www.stanislauslibrary.org
