'Swing' big band rolls into Modesto

MODESTO - "Swing! Swing! Swing!" will be a night of hits from the American songbook at Gallo Center for the Arts Monday, February 14 at 7:00 p.m. Artists Peter Marshall, Pete Barbutti and Polly Podewell, along with the legendary The Pied Pipers, come together for an evening of music, laughs and the Gene Krupa Tribute Big Band.

Tickets range from $20 to $55. A 15 percent discount is available for groups of 15 or more.

MODESTO - Local San Francisco Giants fans will have an opportunity to view the team's 2010 MLB championship trophy on Tuesday, Jan. 18 from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the Modesto Centre Plaza located at 10th and K streets.

Fans will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis. An official photographer will take one photo of each fan with the coveted trophy and the additional use of personal cameras will be determined by event representatives based on the turnout of fans.

Paid parking will be available at a lot on 11th Street between K and L Streets or street parking on K Street, 11th or L Streets.

The trophy visits Modesto as part of the World Champions Trophy Tour presented by Visa, allowing Giants fans from all over California the chance to share a moment with the team's trophy.

Vienna Boys Choir to perform in Modesto

MODESTO - The acclaimed Vienna Boys Choir will perform at the Gallo Center for the Arts, located at 1000 I Street, on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m.

Founded in 1498 by Emperor Maximilian I, this ensemble sang exclusively for the imperial court and private audiences until 1918. Today, they are known for their diverse repertoire encompassing Austrian folk songs and waltzes, classical masterpieces and contemporary pop songs.

The Vienna Boys Choir contains more than 100 singers ages 0-14 who are divided into four touring choirs that perform to almost half a million people every year.

Modesto celebrates Chinese New Year

MODESTO - The 5th Annual Chinese New Year Celebration will be held on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Center located at 211 Bodem Street.

The free event for all ages, presented by the City of Modesto Parks, Recreation and Neighborhoods Department's Maddux Youth Center, Modesto Chinese Culture Club and the Stanislaus Chinese Culture Society, will celebrate the "Year of the Rabbit."

Revelers will enjoy cultural performances, martial arts demonstrations, Chinese calligraphy, musical entertainment and special performances by the Yao Yong Dance Studio from Fremont, Fantasia Performing Arts Center from San Ramon, and Master Wei Ding's Champion Wushu team from Fremont.
