Local nonprofits invited to apply for early literacy mini-grants

Beyond Our Gates funding aims to support new, existing reading programs

As part of University of the Pacific’s Beyond Our Gates campaign, nonprofit organizations in San Joaquin County are invited to apply for mini-grants to expand or pilot promising early literacy programs.

The mini-grants initiative, made possible with support from The James Irvine Foundation, was designed to fuel innovation and engagement toward improving early literacy in and around Stockton. Organizations can apply for one-time mini-grants of $5,000 or $10,000 to fund projects that address overall early literacy, school readiness, chronic absence or summer learning.

Beat Happy! Music 30 Years of D.I.Y. promoting

I have been booking and promoting Live Entertainment of all sorts for 30 years in the greater 209. Started out in Modesto as St Christopher Promotions later as Poison Free Promotions in Stockton and for the last 20 or so years as Beat Happy! Music

On December 9th you are all invited to come and celebrate this milestone at the Portal 1324 Coldwell Ave Modesto CA. Along with live music by Imminent Waves, there will be a special screening of  Nate Bergs' FLORADORA an independent film documenting the D.I.Y. Music of the San Joaquin Valley focused around a Fugazi show 25 years ago at a Knights of Columbus Hall.

Mixed with found-VHS footage of Fugazi, Plaid Retina and Sharon Tate  along with new interviews from those who were at the epicentre, this production is something unique to not just this area but secondary markets all over the US.
