Lodi man, 20, with autism runs colorful business

Toby Clark of Lodi is 20 years old and an entrepreneur making tie dyed T-shirts he sells throughout Northern California.

“He started making them, and he started selling them at a microbusiness fair,” his mother, Janie, said. “He did that for two years, and his tie dyes got really popular, and so people said, ‘You should do this as a business.’”

While starting a business so young is impressive, what makes the achievement even more special is that Clark has autism. He has been able to build his business with the help of the California Department of Rehabilitation, the Central Valley Autism Project, and a vocational rehabilitation program called Valley Mountain Regional Center, which serves San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties.
